Destiny Simon, 18, of San Bernardino, was a passenger in the Mercedes and died at the scene, along with the driver of the Honda. The 19-year-old male driver of the Mercedes, from Helendale, was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center with injuries.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Each year, thousands of Americans are killed in motor vehicle collisions, a troubling trend driven by multiple factors, including distracted driving—often due to cellphone use—and the growing number of large trucks and SUVs on the road. According to preliminary data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), an estimated 8,055 people lost their lives in traffic crashes during the first quarter of 2025.

While the official investigation into the cause and liability of the crash remains ongoing, Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and a national legal analyst for Newsline, emphasized the importance of an independent investigation by an experienced attorney.

“In addition to the diligent work of law enforcement, an attorney can re-interview important witnesses, analyze any surveillance video from the scene of the crash, and obtain phone and texting records of the liable party,” said Bond.

“Time is of the essence in cases such as this one, and the victim’s family must ensure that evidence is reviewed efficiently to protect their legal rights and preserve potential claims.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the results of the investigation, the family of Destiny Simon may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Surviving family members of victims killed in catastrophic accidents may seek compensation for damages including loss of companionship, emotional distress, and pain and suffering.

“Losing a loved one is not only a deeply emotional loss, but also an economic one,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal. “If your family has suffered such a tragedy due to another’s negligence, it’s crucial to seek guidance from a wrongful death attorney to ensure your rights are protected and the justice you deserve is pursued.”
