Lynbrook resident checking for damages to his vehicle fatally hit by a passing car, authorities say
BAYSIDE, NY, (October 15, 2024) - A 31-year-old man was fatally struck by a vehicle shortly after stepping out of his car that was involved in a crash with a Jaguar on a Queens Expressway Tuesday night, police said.
Curtis Blocker, a 31-year-old Lynbrook resident, was hit and killed by a vehicle along Cross Island Expressway in Bayside Tuesday night, according to a news release.
Tragically, the victim—Lynbrook resident Curtis Blocker—died from injuries at North Shore University Hospital.
According to police, Blocker was driving a Chevy Spark around 10:45 p.m. when he collided with the driver of a Jaguar on the Cross Island Expressway in Bayside. Shortly afterward, when the 31-year-old got out of his car alongside Alley Pond Park near the exit to the Long Island Expressway to inspect the damage to his vehicle, he was hit by a passing Nissan Rogue.
The driver of the Rogue, only identified as a 43-year-old man, remained at the scene.
This is an ongoing investigation.
CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED
The number of people struck and killed by drivers nationwide while walking increased by an astonishing 45% over the last decade (2010-2019).
“In most instances, pedestrians possess the right of way when crossing an intersection or a street regardless of if they are in a marked crosswalk,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.
“It is always a driver’s duty to yield to any pedestrian.”
Bond, an experienced pedestrian accident attorney, noted that in cases such as this, it is imperative to have an independent probe conducted by a seasoned lawyer to help protect the rights of the victim's family.
WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM
Pending the results of the investigation, the family members of Curtis Blocker may be entitled to a wrongful death claim for the loss of love and companionship.
“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Bond, a national legal analyst for Newsline.
“A wrongful death lawyer will stay updated on the official investigation and help ensure that the victim's legal rights and best interests are protected.”
