Tragic collision reported Sept. 12 on Figueroa Street
LOS ANGELES, CA, (September 18, 2025) - Police are investigating a deadly pedestrian hit-and-run that occurred Sept. 12 in South Los Angeles.
Clyde Miller was fatally struck by two vehicles in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident on Figueroa Street in South Los Angeles.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, 28-year-old Clyde Miller was struck around 7:35 p.m. while walking outside a crosswalk on Figueroa Street near 81st Street. A southbound silver Toyota Corolla hit him, launching him into the air before he came down on the roadway.
Moments later, a blue vehicle traveling southbound also struck Miller. While the Toyota driver stopped to assist, the driver of the blue vehicle fled the scene without stopping.
Emergency crews transported Miller to a nearby hospital, but he died from his injuries. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner confirmed his identity on Thursday.
Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has information about the fleeing driver to come forward.
FATAL HIT-AND-RUN INVESTIGATION
California leads the nation in fatal hit-and-run incidents, with 457 reported deaths in 2023 alone, according to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. More than 10% of all fatal crashes in the state involve a driver fleeing the scene—nearly double the national average.
Urban areas such as San Francisco and Los Angeles report especially high rates. The majority of these incidents occur at night and often involve pedestrians, underscoring the persistent dangers of hit-and-run collisions across the state.
Candice Bond, an experienced hit-and-run accident attorney, said in cases such as this it is imperative to have an independent investigation conducted by a seasoned attorney in a timely manner to protect a victim’s rights.
“Having the proper resources is extremely important in order to investigate a hit-and-run accident case and prove negligence,” said Bond, a Managing Partner of Bond Legal. “Road conditions, signage visibility, and road lighting are all possible contributing factors that are considered and must thoroughly be examined. These procedures are necessary for helping someone who has lost a loved one at the hands of a hit-and-run driver receive the justice and monetary compensation that they deserve.”
WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM
Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family of Clyde Miller may have grounds for a wrongful death claim, which could include compensation for funeral expenses, loss of love and companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.
“An incident is considered a wrongful death when an individual or entity commits a wrongful or negligent act that results in someone’s death,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal. “When fatalities occur due to unsafe, aggressive, distracted, or impaired driving, families often have the right to pursue a civil action against the responsible driver.”
