Authorities are investigating a hit-and-run collision that claimed the life of 29-year-old Carlos Posada late Sunday night in the Sylmar neighborhood of Los Angeles.

Carlos Posada, 29, was tragically struck and killed in a hit-and-run crash Sunday night in Sylmar. The driver remains at large.
Tragically, Posada was pronounced dead at the scene due to the impact of the crash.
Police are continuing their investigation and are urging anyone with information about the incident or the suspect vehicle to come forward.
FATAL PEDESTRIAN HIT-AND-RUN ACCIDENT
The investigation into Posada’s death remains ongoing. Authorities believe the driver who fled will likely face criminal charges once identified and apprehended. Leaving the scene of a crash is a criminal offense, and according to national statistics, more than one hit-and-run crash occurs every minute in the U.S. Many suspects flee due to intoxication, lack of a valid license, or fear of arrest.
Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national analyst for Newsline, noted that it is crucial to initiate an independent investigation in cases like this to safeguard the legal rights of the victim’s family.
“Having the proper resources is extremely important in order to investigate a hit-and-run accident case and prove negligence,” said Bond. “Road conditions, signage visibility, and road lighting are all possible contributing factors that must be thoroughly examined. These procedures are essential in helping those who have lost a loved one to a hit-and-run driver receive the justice and compensation they deserve. An attorney can also ensure hit-and-run drivers are held accountable for their reckless actions.”
Each year, approximately 2,000 people are killed in hit-and-run crashes across the U.S. Alarmingly, since 2009, these deaths have increased by about 7% annually.
WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM
Pending the results of the investigation, the family of Carlos Posada may be entitled to a wrongful death claim for medical and funeral expenses, the loss of love and companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional trauma.
“An incident is considered a wrongful death when either a person or entity commits a wrongful or negligent act resulting in a person's death,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal. “When vehicle accident fatalities result from unsafe driving, aggressive or distracted driving, speeding, hit-and-run, or driving under the influence, family members are usually left with the option to pursue a civil action against the responsible motorist.”
