Friday afternoon collision happened along Farrow Road

A City of Columbia Public Works employee involved in a fatal collision on Friday has been identified as 27-year-old Bernard Brooks-Summers.  The tragic incident occurred in the 5100 block of Farrow Road, near the intersection of Craven Street, two public works vehicles collided at around 2:45 p.m., according to the Richland County Coroner’s Office.

Brooks-Summers, a resident of Columbia, was pronounced deceased at the accident scene. He had been employed by the City of Columbia since November 2023. 

The other driver involved in the collision was transported to Prisma Health Richland Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

In 2018, the U.S. Department of Transportation Fatality Analysis Reporting System recorded 33,654 fatal motor vehicle crashes in the United States, resulting in 36,560 deaths.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM
