DUI ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Despite national crackdowns, impaired drivers continue to pose a deadly threat to law-abiding road users.

In 2022, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported 13,524 alcohol-related fatalities—nearly one-third of all 42,514 traffic deaths. Additionally, over 6,000 motorcyclists were killed that year, representing 15% of all fatal crashes.

Following Thursday’s fatal DUI crash in Morgan County, an independent investigation may reveal further details, including blood-alcohol content and other contributing factors.

Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and a seasoned DUI accident attorney, emphasized the importance of legal support in such cases.

“Beyond criminal charges, victims or their families may seek justice through a civil lawsuit,” Bond said. “An attorney can gather critical evidence—such as surveillance footage, witness testimony, and phone records—while ensuring the impaired driver is held fully accountable. Legal counsel can guide victims or families through the legal process with compassion and resolve.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Angela and Kevin Childress may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. Loved ones of victims in fatal accidents like this may be entitled to compensation for emotional distress, loss of companionship, and pain and suffering.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand what families must endure, and protecting their rights is essential. A wrongful death attorney can monitor the investigation closely and work to ensure the family’s legal rights and interests are safeguarded.”
