Firefighters were dispatched to an all-hands emergency for a basement blaze at a two-story private dwelling early on Jan. 16. The fire broke out at 271 Merry Mount St., near the corner of Nome Ave. in Staten Island, with the call coming in at 12:25 a.m. A substantial contingent of first responders arrived to combat the flames originating in the basement.
