Why Do Pedestrian Accidents Happen?

Pedestrian accidents often stem from driver distraction, excessive speed, not yielding right of way and low visibility conditions. As vulnerable road users, pedestrians face high risks of serious harm when hit by cars, especially bigger models like SUVs. Typical causes involve people crossing streets outside crosswalks, vehicles making turns without checking properly and distractions impacting drivers or walkers.

Key risks include alcohol use, fast driving, placement on busy roads and larger vehicles, according to the CDC.

Expert Insights

Newsline includes views from national legal analysts on general topics like pedestrian crashes to stress careful probes and rights protection.

“In most instances, pedestrians possess the right of way when crossing an intersection or a street regardless of if they are in a marked crosswalk,” said Candice Bond, managing partner at Bond Legal and a national legal analyst for Newsline.

Bond added that in cases such as this, an independent investigation by a skilled lawyer is key to safeguard victim rights.

“Having the proper resources is extremely important in order to investigate a pedestrian accident case and prove negligence,” Bond said.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel with Bond Legal and a national legal analyst for Newsline.

“We understand just what families are forced to go through, and having their rights protected is vital. A wrongful death lawyer will stay updated on the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.”

Key Takeaways from Analysts:

  • Carry out an independent probe to collect proof and show negligence.
  • Families could file a wrongful death suit for loss of companionship and support.
  • Watch out for insurance firms giving low offers. Seek experts to guard interests.
  • Stress broad safety steps to avoid future events.
