A 9-year-old boy was fatally struck by a city public works vehicle late Thursday morning in south Moorhead, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
The child has been identified as Adam Zakaria Amin of Moorhead.
Adam Zakaria Amin, 9, tragically died after being struck by a city truck Thursday morning in south Moorhead, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
Preliminary reports indicate that a 2018 Mack 700 Straight Truck was traveling northbound on 14th Street South near 40th Avenue South around 11:45 a.m. when it struck Amin as he was crossing in the crosswalk. Sadly, he died from his injuries at the scene.
The truck driver was not injured.
The incident remains under active investigation by authorities.
CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED
Every year, more pedestrians lose their lives on U.S. roads. These deaths are preventable—drivers can help stop them by being attentive whenever they are behind the wheel. In 2024, traffic crashes claimed 477 lives in Minnesota. Pedestrian deaths accounted for 56 of those, up 25% from the previous year, according to the Department of Public Safety.
“In most instances, pedestrians possess the right of way when crossing an intersection or a street regardless of if they are in a marked crosswalk,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and an experienced pedestrian accident attorney.
“Road conditions, signage visibility, and road lighting are all possible contributing factors that are considered and must thoroughly be examined. These procedures are necessary for helping those who have lost a loved one receive the justice that they deserve.”
Time is of the essence in cases such as this, and the family of a victim must be ensured that evidence is reviewed in an efficient manner.
WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM
“It is almost always a driver’s duty to yield to any pedestrian,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal. The family of Adam Zakaria Amin may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim.
“Family members who lose a loved one in a tragic or catastrophic accident may seek compensation for funeral expenses, emotional distress, pain and suffering, loss of income, and loss of companionship,” Bond added.
“Insurance companies often pressure families into quick settlements for far less than the claim is worth,” she said. “An experienced attorney will advocate aggressively on behalf of the family to ensure they are treated fairly and receive the compensation they deserve.”
